WHO WE ARE

PG Pillitteri is the singer-songwriter behind "Beauty in Detritus" bringing the influence of the Beatles, Sting and the 70's & 80's British Folk Rock scene into the 21st Century.

Assembling a top-notch band of New York City musicians and the voices of "The Paulettes," he has released his first album, "Gowanus" named for the famous Brooklyn inlet.

Having recently headlined at "The Delancey" on New York's Lower East Side, look for the band to begin showing up all over town in 2017!

The Story

As a young boy, I sat by my mother’s wheelchair each night to watch the Million Dollar Movie on WOR-9 television in New York City.  Back then they’d show one of the great MGM Musicals from the 30s & 40s all week long.  By the middle of the week I had learned most of the songs and I would stand up next to the old Emerson TV set and sing for her.

I spent much of my teenage years in the basement singing Beatles tunes and slowly learning to play guitar from anyone willing to show me a few chords.  My singing got me into a bunch of cover bands and I learned how to play to an audience. Unfortunately, my mother slowly declined each year and eventually became bedridden.  Each night, I would stop by her bedside before heading over to band practice and ask how she was doing.  One day, I came home and found my mother motionless.  When I touched her hand, she was as cold as ice.

After the funeral, I knocked around feeling lost and eventually joined the Navy.  I continued to follow music but never gave much thought to playing again.

Years later, after being laid-off from a job, I saw a sign at my local Y for a ”Write Your Own Music,” class and tried it on a lark.  As I waited for class to begin I sat down and played an old ditty from those teenage years and started to cry.  It felt like the sky had opened up…it felt like a calling.

I began writing songs like mad. I played with friends and kept saying one day I would put a band together and record an album.  But time passed and I always stopped myself feeling I wasn’t ready. Then one day, a piece of plaque broke off and completely blocked the main artery of my heart...and everything changed.

Laid out on the operating table, the doctor told me I might die. Looking up at the ceiling, I thought “it’s this easy to die.”  One minute I was fine and suddenly, I might die.  I began thinking of all the dreams I had, all the things I wanted to do, that they would all be gone, forever, never realized.

That was the beginning of this album.
